Wing parish council photograph taken around 1894 It was featured in the Leighton Observer when the council celebrated its 100th anniversary, The caption with it described the assembled members as follows: L-R from the back forward: W J Mallett, C Hammerton, J Woodward, Mr Woolhead, G Randall, Moses Syratt, Mr Mitchell, Philip Hart, Mrs Leopold De Rothschild, J Heady The article goes on to describe how Mrs de Rothschild was reputed to be the first woman on a parish council in the country, and that the first meeting was held at the Cricket pavilion at Ascot house, during what looks like a cold time of year.
Moses Syratt was the brother of my (Julian Humphreys) great-great grandfather Reuben, who is pictured in this photograph with his wife Anne standing in the doorway of their cottage in Burcott. The other person standing with them I (Julian Humphreys) have not been able to conclusively identify and do not have a date for, I think this cottage still exists though.
