Luton Airport Flight Path

The airport had intended to submit its proposals to the CAA in January 2005, but at a meeting on March 7th, said that it would be another couple of weeks before the documentation was finalised. The airport would not say what had caused the latest delay, or if they would be submitting Option 3a as consulted upon or a modified plan. PAVAN (Protect Aylesbury Vale Against Noise) is pressing for more details in the interests of open and transparent consultation.

The airport might have delayed submission of the application pending the outcome of the Judicial Review against the Government's Aviation White Paper. At the end of February 2005, the High Court ruled that it was unfair for the Government to consult on two options for additional runway facilities at Luton (realigned runway or a brand new one) and then announce a third (extension to the current runway). A further consultation exercise is therefore necessary prior to any extension plans being finalised.

If you would like to "do your bit" against airport expansion, here are a few suggestions:

1) If you are disturbed by plane noise then contact Luton Airport to complain, giving the date and time of the offending flight(s) (noise@ltn.aero / 01582 395382)

2) Visit www.airportpledge.org.uk and fill out the form against airport expansion

3) Visit www.nonightflights.org and "sign" the petition against night flights

4) Contact PAVAN for more information and to join our e-mail database. (Rachel@pavan.org.uk / 01525 240950)
