Adele

December 30, 2011 6:36pm

It's so exciting that pure talent is once again at the forefront of the music industry. Pop music is so often diluted with manufactured bubblegum acts, failed X Factor attempts and poorly pushed vapid pop anthems.

In such an industry, acts like Adele are an absolute breath of fresh air. It's great to see someone with such raw talent. Watching her live performance of 'Someone Like You' at the Brit Awards, I've stored it on my r4i I love it so much, shows just how stunning her voice is and how well she can convey the emotion behind her words.

And what's even more worth celebrating is these words themselves. Adele is a stunning songwriter, turning her own personal sorrows and life experiences into beautiful songs that we can all identify with. We've all experienced some sort of loss, suffered during a break up or felt that longing for someone we loved, and so we all connect with Adele's songs in a personal and emotional way.

Cannoli

December 14, 2011 5:28pm

Cannoli are extremely delicious pastry desserts which originated in Sicily and are an essential part of Sicilian cuisine. The singular is ‘cannolo’ in Italian, or ‘cannolu’ in Sicilian, both meaning “little tube”. In Italy, the pastries are commonly referred to as “cannoli siciliani”, meaning “Sicilian cannoli”. Cannoli are basically tube-shaped shell of fried pastry which are filled with a sweet creamy filling that usually contains ricotta. Cannoli come in a variety of sizes, some no bigger finger and others being fist-sized in proportion. The larger ones are usually found in Palermo, the capital of Sicily.

Cannoli were historically prepared as a treat during the Carnival season. Cannoli are often associated with fertility and one legend posits that they originated in the harem of Caltanissetta. The American variation of cannoli usually uses a simple custard filling as opposed to ricotta. As an indication of just how popular cannoli are, in the 1972 film The Godfather there is a famous scene in which Peter Clemenza says to Rocco who has just killed Paulie in the car: “Leave the gun. Take the cannoli”. In The Godfather Part III of the 1990s, Connie Corleone uses poisoned cannoli to kill Don Altobello. Why not use your Duvet and Pillow Warehouse discount codes to get some cheap cannoli?

Evil and Money

December 5, 2011 3:23pm

Having looked at the results from a few l lotteries around the world I have noticed a few patterns note ably the large amount of 6’s in the line up of numbers that have been scooped in large rollovers. Is this a sign that the devil is responsible for the creation of multimillionaires? This first came to my attention 2 years ago while trawling through the Internet. Noticed that there was an unnerving amount of 6’s in the numbers drawn. 666 being the number of the devil I though there may be a connection between the acquisition of riches and the dark forces and disturbances cause by the devil.

The relationship between evil and money has been expressed many times through the ages by church and moralists a like associating money with greed and selfishness. If this is true then in fact the lottery could be a destructive and destabilizing force within society. Suddenly thrusting individuals from there pragmatic and honorable existence to the hedonistic heights of vast riches. This process has the power to break family bonds destroying relationships with any one around the so-called lucky individual’s. I guess on your perspective on capitalism and money itself but with the international economy in turmoil the lottery could be the devils way of hinting his involvement.

Catching Up

November 25, 2011 12:34pm

I'm a bit slow on the uptake with this one, but I've just recently started getting into 90210 on e4, or CW if you're in the states.

I started watching some of the episodes on e4 and watched bits of seasons two and three, but I completely missed the first series.

I finished season three so now I've gone back to season one to catch up so I know all the history - like it's weird that I didn't know about the whole Annie and Naomi man triangles go way back with Ethan! And that Silver and Dixon used to be together! It was a shock for me!

So I've loaded them all onto r4i gold and I'm gradually going through catching up to where I first started watching. I miss episodes in series two and three so I'll probably watch all the way through.

Season four has already started in the US and it'll be starting over here at some point, but it'll probably be ages away, we're always so far behind with these American programs. I want to know what happens with Annie and Liam, and Ivy and Raj, I really hope he doesn't get sick or die and time soon.

Ice Hotel

November 18, 2011 1:20pm

The world’s first ice hotel is located in the village of Jukkasjärvi, 17 kilometres from Kiruna, in Sweden. Existing only between the months of December and April, the idea for the hotel came as a result of a need for tourist accommodation. In Spring 1990, the French artist Jannot Derid put on an exhibition within an igloo in the village. On one particular night, there were not enough rooms available in the village and so visitors to the exhibition asked to sleep within the exhibition hall. Sleeping in sleeping bags atop reindeer skin, these visitors became the very first guests of the hotel.

Each winter the hotel is reconstructed from ice blocks and snow that is taken from the Torne River. Before the ice and snow melts in March, the Icehotel takes tons of ice and places it within a production hall so that different designs and objects can be developed through the summer such as ice glasses. 1,000 tons of the remaining ice is used for the construction of the subsequent Ice Hotel. Imagine how cold it must be! They should head to npower.com/fix to cut their energy bills!
